Canada’s French-language market is primed to make a splash at Series Mania in France again, as La Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) brings back its Coming Next From Quebec program for another year.
The event is held by SODEC in partnership with Bell Media, Quebecor Content, Radio-Canada and, newly added to the program, Télé-Québec, to highlight Quebec series ready to launch internationally. French TV festival Series Mania runs from March 17 to 24.
Bell Media, Radio-Canada and Quebecor Content will each present two series, while Télé-Québec will present one.
The Bell Media projects are Après le déluge (Zone3, ZAMA Productions) and Bon matin Chuck (ou l’art de réduire les méfaits) (St-Laurent TV, Connect3), and the Radio-Canada titles are Avant le crash (Sovimage) and La candidate (Encore Télévision).
Quebecor Content will present Les perles (Encore Télévision) and Mégantic (Also Productions; pictured), while Télé-Québec will present L’air d’aller (Urbania).
A delegation of nearly 50 Quebec producers and creatives will be in attendance at Series Mania, according to SODEC. The organization previously reported record representation from Quebec at Series Mania in 2022, with close to 60 delegates taking part.
Two French-language Canadian titles have previously been announced as competition selections at the market: Crave original Désobéir: Le choix de Chantale Daigle (Disobey), produced by Also Productions, in the International Panorama competition, and Télé-Québec mockumentary Nichole (Inseparable Films) in the Short Forms Competition.
Other notable Quebec titles looking for buyer interest at Series Mania, according to SODEC, are À propos d’Antoine (ComediHa!), Fragments (Amalga Créations Média) and L’empereur (Sovimage).
