Global’s Big Brother Canada will have a significant change heading into its eleventh season as the reality competition eliminates its 24/7 live feeds.
Corus Entertainment announced on Thursday (Feb. 23) that usual live feeds will be replaced with digital dailies, described as “uncut content from inside the BBCAN house,” and will be published “regularly throughout each week,” according to a news release.
Big Brother Canada is produced by Boat Rocker’s Insight Productions, and season 11 is scheduled to premiere on Global on March 8.
“We are constantly looking for new ways to evolve the show to ensure we operate with the utmost duty of care and prioritize the mental health and well-being of the houseguests, and their family members, as well as our own production team who work closely on the series,” said Lisa Godfrey, SVP, original content and Corus Studios, in a statement, noting that the transition to digital dailies was made “after thoughtful consideration.”
The Big Brother format, owned by Banijay, sees a group of disparate strangers living together under one roof, where they are constantly monitored as they complete challenges and weekly evictions until one houseguest is left standing for the final cash prize. The format traditionally includes 24/7 video access for viewers, with CBS’s U.S. version live feeds available for Paramount+ subscribers in the region.
The Canadian version’s live feeds were previously available for free for viewers on bigbrothercanada.ca, which is where the new digital dailies will be located.
Big Brother Canada is hosted by executive producer Arisa Cox, who received a Canadian Screen Award nomination this week for Best Host or Presenter, Factual or Reality/Competition for her work on the series, which also garnered nominations for costume and and production/art design.
