XYZ Films to bring Atom Egoyan’s latest to EFM

Seven Veils stars Amanda Seyfried and will go into production in Toronto next week.

A tom Egoyan is headed to the opera with his latest film Seven Veils, starring The Dropout‘s Amanda Seyfried.

The film is written, directed and produced by Egoyan (The Sweet Hereafter) under his banner Ego Film Arts alongside Toronto’s Rhombus Media. The producers include Rhombus founder and president Niv Fichman, Fraser Ash (BlackBerry), Kevin Krikst (Possessor), and Simone Urdl (Away From Her).

Seven Veils follows a theatre director who is tasked with remounting her former mentor’s work, the opera Salome. It will begin production in Toronto next week.

XYZ Films is a co-financier of Seven Veils and represents worldwide sales. The L.A.-based studio will bring the feature to the European Film Market in Berlin later this month. Elevation Pictures is on board as the Canadian distributor.

Seven Veils received financial participation from Telefilm Canada, in association with New York’s Cinetic Media, Helsinki-headquartered IPR.VC, and the Canadian Opera Company, in addition to XYZ Films.

Executive producers on the film are XYZ’s Aram Tertzakian, Nate Bolotin, Maxime Cottray and Nick Spicer, Cinetic Media’s John Sloss, and Elevation Pictures’ Noah Segal and Adrian Love.

Rhombus Media, XYZ Films, and IPR.VC previously produced and co-financed Matt Johnson’s latest film BlackBerry, which will have its world premiere later this month at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival. XYZ sold U.S. rights to BlackBerry to IFC Films ahead of the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022.

Egoyan previously worked with Seyfried on his 2009 film Chloe. The actor has recently won several accolades for her work in Hulu series The Dropout, including a Primetime Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Critics’ Choice Award.

Seyfried is represented by Innovative Artists, while Egoyan is represented by WME, Cinetic Media and Great North Artists Management.
