Vancouver-based Network Entertainment, a Network Media Group company, has announced a strategic partnership with Elevation Pictures for the Canadian distribution of Network’s feature I Am documentary series.
The first three movies to be handled under the deal will be Pete McCormack’s I Am Joe Frazier; Adrian Buitenhuis’ I Am Luke Perry, executive produced by Jason Priestley; and Olivia Cheng’s I Am Raquel Welch.
All three are produced by Network content executive Gemma Strongman. John Barbisan produces alongside her on I Am Joe Frazier, while Stephen Sawchuk is also a producer on I Am Luke Perry.
While Strongman did not give specifics on Elevation’s plans for distribution, she told Playback Daily the relationship “will build from there.” Previous I Am films have been distributed via limited theatrical runs, streamers, VOD and DVDs.
“Partnering with Elevation ensures that these powerful stories will reach Canadian audiences, continuing to inspire and entertain,” said Derik Murray, Network founder and CEO, in a statement.
The I Am brand focuses solely on the lives and legacies of global cultural icons, and began in 2012 with I Am Bruce Lee. Other subjects include Burt Reynolds, Chris Farley, Paul Walker and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Fremantle Media handles international distribution for the I Am documentaries.
In February 2024, the CW entered into a multi-year licensing agreement for the prodco’s I Am library of films. I Am Joe Frazier premiered Feb. 22 on the U.S. network, while I Am Luke Perry is set for March 1 and I Am Raquel Welch will premiere March 8.
