Toronto-based marblemedia has promoted Diane Rankin to the newly created position of EVP, rights and executive producer.
In her role, Rankin (pictured) will report to co-founders and co-CEOs Mark Bishop and Matt Hornburg, and head marblemedia’s content commercialization strategy to stimulate growth across the scripted, unscripted, kids and family genres to bolster commercial partnerships, presales and coproduction opportunities. She’ll also maintain the growth of marblemedia’s international distribution arm, Distribution360 (D360), according to a news release.
Rankin will also be tasked with delivering hit series and formats suitable for foreign and global adaptation, as well as managing marblemedia’s revenue growth across D360’s catalogue of premium scripted, unscripted, kids and family programming, including Netflix’s hit Blown Away and Drink Masters.
Rankin’s promotion coincides with marblemedia’s strategy for 2023, which includes plans to increase production output both by elevating existing international partnerships and establishing new ones, said the release. Rankin will work with department heads of marblemedia’s scripted, unscripted, kids and family divisions to develop new projects and revenue opportunities.
Rankin has 25 years of industry experience and joined marblemedia in 2015, recently serving as SVP, rights and EP. Rankin handled the company’s international growth across scripted, unscripted, kids and family and third-party acquisitions as well as marblemedia’s sales, rights management, digital programming through YouTube, and its distribution strategy.
As executive producer on unscripted series at marblemedia, she has focused on maximizing profitability with partners in the international space. Prior to marblemedia, Rankin held senior leadership positions at DRG, Cineflix Rights and Playback owner Brunico Communications.
“Diane has an incredible track record for developing and managing our strong and diverse slate of titles, while driving new exciting partners to our projects,” said Bishop in a statement. “The evidence of our success is in the work Diane has done with regards to delivering new financing opportunities for our content.”
Rankin said co-financing and collaboration have been key to the diversification of marblemedia’s content.
“In such a vibrant and ever-changing market, partnership is more important than ever, particularly as we expand further into scripted and continue to elevate premium original content across all our genres through high quality production with global appeal,” she said. “The opportunity to work with new partners is incredibly exciting as we continue to take an innovative approach to the opportunities in front of us and the deals we are making to meet market demand and navigate the current economic climate.”
