Sony Pictures Entertainment hires former Corus exec Peter Hill

Corus Entertainment has promoted Cristina Deguara to take on his former role as director of programming, Global and drama.

Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) has hired former Corus Entertainment and Bell Media exec Peter Hill (pictured) as executive director, TV distribution, Canada.

Hill began the Toronto-based role effective Tuesday (Jan. 3), and reports to Stephanie Shinkoda, VP, distribution and co-country manager.

The role gives Hill oversight of SPE’s AVOD and FAST (free, ad-supported TV) channel strategy in Canada, in addition to content sales for free TV, basic cable, and SVOD in English and French.

Hill most recently held the role of director of programming, Global and drama at Corus Entertainment, where he joined in spring 2021. Before that he worked at Bell Media as director of acquisitions and program strategy. He has also held senior roles at CBC, BBC Worldwide, and Alliance Atlantis.

Cristina Deguara was promoted to take over Hill’s former position, a spokesperson for Corus has confirmed to Playback Daily. Deguara has been with Corus since 2016, first joining as a prime time scheduler for Global, before moving to the position of manager of revenue management. She has more than 15 years of experience working in television, including specialty programming.

SPE inked a long-term deal with Bell Media-owned SVOD Crave late last year to provide exclusive first pay window rights to theatrical releases such as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, starting in April.
