Daniel Eves, Corus’ SVP of networks, to step down

Jennifer Abrams will replace Eves, who "felt it was time to take a break," says Corus.

Daniel Eves, SVP of broadcast networks at Corus Entertainment, is stepping down after 22 years with the company.

Eves (pictured left) will exit effective Dec. 15 and Jennifer Abrams (pictured right), Corus’ current VP, programming and multi-platform, will be his successor, according to a news release issued on Wednesday (Nov. 23).

Abrams will take over as SVP, programming and multi-platform effective Jan. 1, 2023 while Eves continues with Corus in a consulting capacity to support the transition until spring 2023.

“After careful consideration for some time and many successful years with Corus, making significant contributions over the last few years and accomplishing many of his personal goals, Daniel felt it was time to take a break and consider the next phase in his career,” a Corus spokesperson tells Playback Daily.

Eves has been been “a key architect” in the company’s streaming ventures and long-term success in both specialty and conventional TV, said the release, which noted he “helped launch StackTV and primed the platform for its ongoing success through deeper partnerships with studio suppliers.”

Troy Reeb, EVP of broadcast networks, heralded his versatile career.

“There are few executives who have programmed as many different networks as Daniel – from scripted to lifestyle, from factual to kids, and every format in between,” said Reeb in a statement. “His accomplished career at Corus has seen increased audiences across many of our channels and we thank him for his many contributions throughout his tenure.”

Abrams joined Corus in 2013 and has worked across the business to prioritize major series and brands, commission Canadian shows and secure content from around the world for its platforms.

In her new role, Abrams will be responsible for all programming and content windowing strategies across the company’s 33 specialty networks, Global and the Global TV App, StackTV, Teletoon+, and the Corus-operated channels on the upcoming Pluto TV in Canada.

“An excellent people leader with a keen eye for picking great shows and creating great brands, I can think of no one better to lead our programming teams into the future than Jenn Abrams,” said Reeb.
