Netflix cancels The Imperfects after one season

Co-creator, showrunner and executive producer Dennis Heaton has confirmed that the series will not be picked up for a second season.

Netflix has cancelled Nomadic Pictures’ The Imperfects after one season.

The sci-fi series was created by executive producers Dennis Heaton and Shelley Eriksen, with Heaton serving as showrunner, and produced by Calgary’s Nomadic Pictures. It premiered on Netflix on Sept. 8.

Heaton confirmed via Twitter on Tuesday (Nov. 8) that the series would not be picked up for a second season. “We had an amazing cast and crew and a ton of fun making the show,” he wrote. “Thanks to everyone who checked it out.”

Netflix greenlit The Imperfects in spring 2021, with production taking place in Vancouver. The series followed a number of young people who were turned into monsters after an experimental gene therapy went wrong. It starred Italia Ricci, Morgan Taylor Campbell, Rhianna Jagpal and Iñaki Godoy.

Heaton, Eriksen and executive producers Chad Oakes and Michael Frislev of Nomadic previously collaborated on another sci-fi series for Netflix, The Order, which ran for two seasons on the streaming service.

Nomadic has produced several series for Netflix, including Wu Assassins and The I-Land.
