Deals: D360, Abacus Media Rights, Cineflix Rights, Memento International

Canadian scripted and unscripted titles sell wide internationally in the lead-up to MIPCOM, while Charlotte Le Bon's feature Falcon Lake finds U.S. distribution.

Distribution360 (D360) has announced new deals for parentco marblemedia’s unscripted competition series as it prepares to launch the format A Cut Above (12 x 60 minutes; pictured) at the Cannes, France market MIPCOM, running from Oct. 17 to 20.

The wood-cutting series has been pre-bought by A+E Networks EMEA for the U.K., Ireland, Benelux, Sweden, Iberia and sub-Saharan Africa, in addition to acquiring the first two seasons of the Netflix original Blown Away (10 x 30 minutes). Season one of the glass-blowing sensation has also been picked up by Mediawan for French-speaking Belgium, Europe (excluding France), and Africa.

Additionally, Best in Miniature (10 x 60 minutes) has been acquired by TV2 Denmark and Discovery+ in Brazil, while the format rights have been optioned by France prodco Reservoir Productions. All three series and their formats, as well as seasons one and two of marblemedia’s Race Against the Tide (10 x 30 minutes), will be part of the D360 lineup at MIPCOM.

Abacus Media Rights

CBC and HBO Max dramedy Sort Of (Sphere Media; 16 x 30 minutes) has racked up new international sales ahead of its season two premiere in Canada on Nov. 15. Distributor Abacus Media Rights (ABR) has sold both season one and two to Discovery in Benelux, while NPO in the Netherlands has acquired season two. Additionally, ABR has sold Canada/Australia copro Griff’s Canadian Adventure (Nikki Ray Media Agency, EQ Media) to VRT for Flemish Belgium.

Cineflix Rights

International buyers are sinking their teeth into Canadian supernatural drama Reginald the Vampire (10 x 60 minutes) in the lead-up to MIPCOM. Distributor Cineflix Rights has sold the series in the U.K. and Ireland (Sky), Latin America (AMC Networks International) and Poland and the Balkans (SCIFI). NBCUniversal International Networks & Direct-To-Consumer has also picked up the series for its Syfy channels in France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, and Switzerland.

Reginald the Vampire is produced by Great Pacific Media, Modern Story, December Films, and Cineflix Studios and was commissioned by U.S. network Syfy. The series was previously acquired by Prime Video for its Canadian release.

Memento International

Charlotte Le Bon’s debut feature Falcon Lake has secured a U.S. distributor, in addition to several international acquisitions. New York and L.A.-based arthouse distributor Yellow Veil Pictures has picked up U.S. rights to the film, which had its world premiere as part of the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight. Sphere Films handles Canadian distribution, while Tandem holds distribution rights in France.

The U.S. distribution deal was negotiated by global sales agent Memento International’s Mathieu Delaunay and Yellow Veil Pictures’ Hugues Barbier, Justin Timms, and Joe Yanick.

The coming-of-age film is a France/Canada copro, produced by Montreal’s Metafilms, and France’s Onzecinq and Cinefrance Studios. Memento International has also sold the film to Japan (Tsumiki), U.K. and Ireland (Signature), Spain (Flamingo), Benelux (Cherry Pickers), Italy (Movies Inspired), Israel (Lev), Portugal (Leopardo), Poland (Aurora), Central America (Pacifica Grey), and Indonesia (PT Falcon).
