Toronto children’s entertainment company Guru Studio has inked new global broadcast deals for its original series Big Blue and True and the Rainbow Kingdom ahead of this year’s MIPCOM.
Big Blue (pictured), a comedy adventure geared to five to nine-year-olds, secured new broadcast deals for RTVE Clan in Spain, EBS in South Korea, Canal Panda in Portugal, and MBC in the Middle East. The series, about a submarine crew’s adventures in an underwater universe, has been growing its audience on Nickelodeon in the U.K. and Cartoon Network in Africa since its world premiere on CBC Kids in 2020, according to a news release.
Hit preschool series True and the Rainbow Kingdom also signed a new deal with EBS in South Korea along with Cartoon Network in Turkey and the Philippines. Last month, the story of a heroine and her cat ranked in the top five of kids series for ages four and over on Tiny Pop in the U.K.
Corey Caplan, senior director of international sales at Guru Studio, said in a statement that there is currently “tremendous enthusiasm from broadcasters for our lineup of originals.”
The new deals come nearly two weeks after Guru Studio announced it has acquired the international distribution and licensing rights to Omens Studios’ 123 Number Squad!. The series, commissioned by Singapore’s Mediacorp, is scheduled to launch on Sky Kids and NOW in the U.K. in early 2023.
Last year, the kids content producer’s original series Pikwik Pack was picked up by multiple global broadcasters, including Tiny Pop in the U.K., Rai in Italy, TG4 in Ireland, Mediacorp Okto in Singapore, YLE in Finland, EBC YOYO in Taiwan, Globosat in Brazil, Canal Panda in Spain and Portugal, and OSN in the Middle East and the Baltics.
