Canadian director Mary Harron’s Dalíland is set to world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) as the closing night gala presentation.
The festival’s 47th edition will debut Dalíland on Sept. 17 at Roy Thomson Hall. The opening-night gala is Sally El Hosaini’s Netflix-bound The Swimmers on Sept. 8 at the same venue.
Dalíland is directed by Harron, who was previously at TIFF in 2017 for the debut of her limited series Alias Grace (CBC, Netflix), and written by John C. Walsh (Pipe Dream). It is produced by Edward R. Pressman (American Psycho) and Sam Pressman (Powder Blue) of Pressman Film, David Sacks (Thank You for Smoking) of David O. Sacks Productions, Chris Curling (The Keeper) of Zephyr Films, and Daniel Brunt (Thank You for Smoking).
The story follows the marriage of Spanish artist Salvador Dali and his wife, Gala. The film stars Sir Ben Kingsley (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Barbara Sukowa (Two of Us), Christopher Briney (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Rupert Graves (Emma), Alexander Beyer (The Little Drummer Girl), Andreja Pejic (The Other Me), Mark McKenna (One Of Us Is Lying), Zachary Nachbar-Seckel (Life After Life), Avital Lvova (Trackers), and Suki Waterhouse (Seance).
