Sort Of, The Handmaid’s Tale, Way Over Me score multiple CCE Award nominations

The Canadian Cinema Editors event will also hand out special honours, including a posthumous Career Achievement Award for the late filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée.

CBC dramedy Sort Of, Hulu/CTV Drama Channel drama The Handmaid’s Tale and drama Way Over Me (Sortez-moi de moi) from Crave and Super Écran have each scored multiple nominations for next month’s Canadian Cinema Editors (CCE) Awards.

Sort Of (Sienna Films; pictured), which recently scored three Canadian Screen Awards and nominations for Peabody and Rockie awards, is up for two CCE trophies in the category of Best Editing in TV Comedy — one nomination for Craig Webster and Sam Thomson for episode 108, and another for Sam Thomson for episode 101. The other nominees in the category include Isabelle Malenfant for Les Beaux Malaises (Encore Télévision/Matte TV); Justin Lachance for M’entends-tu? (Trio Orange); and Yvann Thibaudeau for the Guillaume Lespérance-produced Les Mecs.

The Handmaid’s Tale is up for three CCE Awards in the category of Best Editing in TV Drama, with nominees including Ana Yavari (episode 407), Christopher Donaldson (episode 409) and Wendy Hallam Martin (episode 403). That category also includes Jamie Alain for the TNT/Netflix series Snowpiercer (CJ Entertainment), and Myriam Coulombe for Les Productions ALSO’s detective series Portrait-Robot on TVA Group.

Way Over Me has two nominations in the category of Best Editing in MOW/Mini-Series, with Louis-Philipp Rathé in the running for episode one and Myriam Coulombe for episode five. Their competition includes Dominique Champagne for Bête Noire (Encore Télévision); Gareth C. Scales with The Pursuit of Love (Open Book Productions); and Matthew Hannam for The North Water (Rhombus Media, See-Saw Films).

The 12th annual CCE Awards year are set for May 26 with host Richard Crouse at the Delta Hotel in Toronto.

Best Editing in Feature Film nominees include Arthur Tarnowski for Ivan Grbovic’s Les oiseaux ivres (Drunken Birds) (micro_scope); Christopher A. Smith for Drinkwater (Suitcase Charlie Films); Rich Williamson with Scarborough (Compy Films), which recently won Best Motion Picture at the Canadian Screen Awards; Shaun Rykiss with Wildhood (Rebel Road Films); and Sophie Leblond for Sin La Habana (Voyelles Films).

Special award recipients include a posthumous Career Achievement Award for the late filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée, a Lifetime Achievement Award for Ron Sanders and a Student Award of Merit, which will be announced in early may.
