Production executive Ashley Rice has been appointed president and co-managing partner of Cinespace Studios.
Rice joins Cinespace COO Eoin Egan and CFO Keith Gee, who are also co-managing partners. The three will oversee and manage the growth of the global studio platform, which was founded in Toronto by the late Nick Mirkopoulos in 1988 and acquired by TPG Real Estate Partners last November.
The San Francisco-based real-estate investor has since acquired Germany’s Studio Babelsberg under the Cinespace umbrella.
Rice was previously at California-based Legendary Television, where she most recently served as the executive VP of physical production. Before that, she was VP of production at ABC Studios, where she managed all aspects of production on a variety of series for Shonda Rhimes and Mark Gordon. Her other experience includes production executive at HBO.
Cinespace has 90 stages across its locations in Toronto, Chicago and Berlin, making it one of the largest sound stage operators globally.
The news release announcing Rice’s appointment did not mention Steve Mirkopoulos, who has been president and CEO of Cinespace Toronto. Asked about how Rice’s new role might affect operations in Toronto, a TPG media representative told Playback Daily they have no “further comment on record at this time.”
“We’re building Cinespace to serve as a global hub and ecosystem for content production,” said Jacob Muller, business unit partner with TPG Real Estate, in a statement. “Ashley’s leadership and experience, combined with the management strength that Eoin and Keith have already brought to Cinespace, position us well to meet global demand for expanded studio space and create new jobs.”
Rice said she’s “thrilled to be joining Cinespace at a time when the demand for content is soaring.”
“The Cinespace brand has a strong history of providing high-quality space for the most prominent content creators around the world, and I am excited to be part of an executive team that will lead the platform into its next phase of growth,” she added in a statement.
“Ashley is a visionary executive who has a fantastic pulse on the production industry and broader entertainment space,” said Egan. “It’s a privilege to have Ashley join the team as we look to grow and scale the Cinespace platform.”
