Culinary competition series Fridge Wars, co-created and co-produced by The Gurin Company and CBC, is getting its first local adaptation. Licensing division CBC & Radio-Canada Distribution says Endemol Shine Germany — part of Banijay Germany, which optioned the format rights last year — is producing a local version for German broadcaster Sat.1.
The 6 x 95-minute German adaptation entited Kühlschrank öffne dich! — which loosely translates to Fridge Open Sesame! — is set to premiere on April 7 and will see three families judging meals made by chefs using ingredients from their fridges. The original series (pictured) premiered on CBC in 2020, followed by The CW Network in the U.S.
Spin Master
Toronto-based Spin Master has renewed is global licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) and DC. The new deal is for a four-year term and will include the development of DC-inspired toys for the Batman franchise and other super heroes.
The agreement extends the relationship the two companies first set in 2018, which saw Spin Master become the toy licensee for DC in the action figure, playset, roleplay and vehicle categories for the period of 2019 to 2022. The new agreement spans the beginning in 2023 through to 2026 and comes ahead of Warner Bros. Pictures’ release of The Batman on March 4.
Citytv
Canada’s Got Talent has got sponsors. Citytv says CIBC, the Air Miles Reward Program, Tim Hortons, and Walmart have signed on as premium brand partners for the original series, which is set to premiere March 22 and is produced by Fremantle, SYCO Entertainment, McGillivray Entertainment Media, in association with Citytv, a division of Rogers Sports & Media.
CIBC is giving the champion a grand prize of $150,000 and the opportunity to work with a financial advisor to help achieve their talent goal. Air Miles is helping contestants travel to Niagara Falls, Ont., where production is taking place, and will give semifinalists “a special surprise announcement” during episode seven.
Tim Hortons is fuelling the celebrity judges, host and contestants, plus offering fans a “Quenchers Backstage” glimpse into the competition. And Walmart is giving audiences the chance to “Vote and Save” four of their favourite semifinal acts and send them through to the live two-hour finale on May 17.
