Stunt expert Derek Barnes rolls on first feature

al sapienza-01High Star Entertainment and Kemodo Entertainment have started principal photography in Ontario and Alberta on its latest thriller, Walking Supply.

The action film is the feature directorial debut of stunt performer and co-ordinator Derek Barnes, whose recent work includes the series Titans and The Expanse and films The Man From Toronto and The Retreat.

Walking Supply is written by Barnes, James McDougall and Douglas Nyback, and is based on Barnes’ 2016 short film of the same name.

The thriller stars Al Sapienza (The Sopranos) and follows the story of an engineer who is abducted and imprisoned at a Russian militant camp and subjected to torture.

Filming began on Tuesday (Feb. 22) and takes place in Toronto, Hamilton and Collingwood, Ont., as well as Banff, Alta. Production is expected to wrap on March 30.

Toronto-based distributor levelFILM is handling Canadian distribution.

High Star’s Bruno Marino is a producer on Walking Supply alongside director James Mark (Control) of Kemodo Entertainment. The duo have collaborated on five films together, including Mark’s most recent film Escalation, which stars Cindy Sampson and went into production in summer 2021 in Toronto and Hamilton.
