WildBrain, iQiyi partner on new series from Keith Chapman

Jonny Jetboy, from the creator behind PAW Patrol and Bob The Builder, will be produced by China's iQiyi in collaboration with WildBrain, tapping into the company's global distribution and licensing expertise.

WildBrain has partnered with Chinese streaming service iQiyi to create kids series Jonny Jetboy.

The 40 x 11-minute series, targeted to kids aged four to seven, is created by British writer Keith Chapman (pictured), the mind behind global hits such as PAW Patrol and Bob the Builder. It follows the titular 10-year-old hero who is the youngest member of a superhero family known as JetForce.

Jonny Jetboy is produced by iQiyi in collaboration with Halifax-based WildBrain, which will supervise creation of the project and handle distribution and licensing outside of China. The series is expected to be delivered by 2023.

China’s WingSing Animation Studio will animate the series, with the studio’s Jinming Lu (GG Bond) serving as executive producer alongside Chapman and Michael Vogel (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic).

The project was initiated by iQiyi and is WildBrain’s “first global partnership for original China IP” from its Shanghai-based team, led by managing director Jianbo Wei.

Jonny Jetboy marks a major milestone for our dedicated China team as we join forces with iQiyi, a leading player in media and entertainment, to launch this thrilling new kids brand for the international market,” said Wei in a statement.

“Together with first-class teams, both international and domestic, as well as WildBrain’s strength in international distribution and licensing in the global market, this is a key step for iQiyi in building an internationally recognized IP,” added iQiyi VP Xiaoxuan Yang.
