Entertainment One inks mega deal with NENT

The Stockholm-headquartered streaming giant acquired more than 700 hours of 'strong international ratings performers' – both new and library content – including Sheri Elwood's Moonshine.

Entertainment One has struck a landmark multi-year agreement to deliver more than 700 hours of content including Six Eleven Media’s new comedic drama Moonshine and SEVEN24 Films’ and Lark Productions’ fresh drama Family Law to Nordic Entertainment Group for viewers in the Nordic and Baltic regions.

Described as the “largest deal-to-date” between the partners, the acquisition also includes significant library content such as co-produced multi-season hits Private Eyes (with Piller/Segan), Hell on Wheels (Nomadic Pictures), Saving Hope and Rookie Blue (ICF Films), Cardinal (Sienna Films)Mary Kills People (Cameron Pictures), Burden of Truth (ICF Films, Eagle Vision), Bitten (Hoodwink Entertainment, No Equal Entertainment), Haven (Big Motion Pictures), Ransom (Sienna Films, Big Light Productions and Budapest-based Korda Studios) as well as The Newsreader, Into the Badlands and Deputy.

Suzanne Flowerday-Nilson, sales manager for eOne, brokered the deal focused on “strong international ratings performers” with the fast-growing streaming company, which is available in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.

“Our ground-breaking agreement broadens significantly our longstanding relationship,” said Spyro Markesinis, eOne’s EVP of sales, EMEA and Asia, in a statement. “We are committed to further cementing our position as a leading producer and distributor of highly coveted content that resonates with discerning audiences.”

The Toronto-based independent studio – which now has a toehold in the Baltic regions, Poland and Netherlands with the new deal with Stockholm-headquartered NENT – has grown its reach into the Nordic region and Europe through other recent licensing deals for more than 800 hours of content, bringing the cumulative total sales to more than 1,500 hours.

NENT streamer Viaplay is accelerating expansion. It’s adding five new markets, including Canada, by the end of 2023 on either a direct-to-consumer basis, or through partnerships with local distributors. In September, NENT Group president and CEO Anders Jensen said the service aims to target 12 million subscribers by the end of 2025.
