Corus Studios expands global sales team

The Corus Entertainment-owned studio hit 1,300 hours of content sales in the previous fiscal year, with more than 70 hours already sold in Q1.

Corus Studios has expanded its global sales team following the sale of more than 1,300 hours of content over a 12-month period.

The Corus Entertainment-owned studio has tapped Still Road Media co-founder Pooja Nirmal Kant to oversee sales in Asia and Central Eastern Europe. The team includes Leyla Formoso, who represents Latin America and select European territories, and Rita Carbone Fleury, who leads worldwide sales.

Corus Studios’ latest deal is the pre-sale of upcoming HISTORY series Deadman’s Curse (8 x 60 minutes; pictured), which has been pre-sold to U.S. streaming service Hulu. The streamer acquired more than 200 episodes of Corus Studios content this spring, including culinary series Project Bakeover (10 x 60 minutes), two seasons of Salvage Kings (10 x 60 minutes) and two seasons of the reno series Worst to First (10 x 60 minutes).

Nirmal Kant has more than 15 years of experience in content sales and distribution. She most recently served as director, international content distribution, Asia Pacific, at A+E Networks before co-founding content distribution company Still Road Media in 2021. Earlier this month Nirmal Kant joined Abacus Media Rights as an exclusive sales agent for Asia, excluding Japan.

Corus Studios kicked off its Q1 with more than 70 hours of content sales. Australia’s Foxtel has picked up season three of Rust Valley Restorers (12 x 60 minutes) and season two of Salvage Kings; Israel’s Tait Communications has acquired Making It Home with Kortney & Kenny (10 x 60 minutes), Worst to First and season three of Island of Bryan (10 x 60 minutes); AMC Networks International channel Blaze has acquired Salvage Kings season two for Spain and Portugal; Netherlands’ Taipa Networks has picked up Project Bakeover for its channel Net5.

Corus Entertainment reported its year-end financial results on Friday (Oct. 22), with a 2% increase in its consolidated revenue compared to fiscal 2020.
