A d-based streamer The Roku Channel has acquired U.S. rights to the upcoming CTV comedy Children Ruin Everything.
Produced by New Metric Media in association with Bell Media, the 8 x 30-minute comedy stars Meaghan Rath (Being Human) and Aaron Abrams (Blindspot) as a couple struggling to find balance between parenthood and staying connected to their lives before having kids. It is created by Kurt Smeaton, who serves as showrunner and executive producer.
Children Ruin Everything has been acquired as a Roku original and will land on The Roku Channel in 2022. The deal was negotiated by New Metric Media.
Bell Media Distribution holds international rights to the series, with New Metric Media handling sales.
Executive producers on the series are Rath, New Metric Media president Mark Montefiore and Modern Family writer Chuck Tatham. New Metric development exec Beth Iley serves as producer.
Additional cast members are Ennis Esmer (Blindspot) and Nazneen Contractor (Ransom).
“Roku Originals have been an important part of our overall content portfolio for The Roku Channel this year and we are pleased with how they have performed.” said Colin Davis, head of scripted, Roku, in a statement. “Our focus is on delivering a broad selection of compelling content from award-winning creators and talent to our audience for free. Children Ruin Everything represents an exciting step in the growth of Roku Originals as we continue to build up our slate with a great variety of originals from all over the world.”
The Roku Channel reached an estimated 70 million users in Q1 2021 as part of its “record growth,” according to a release from Roku.
Children Ruin Everything was greenlit by CTV in early 2020 and was announced as part of the channel’s 2020/21 season during upfronts earlier this year.
