RTR Media expands with trio of hires

The Toronto prodco behind HGTV series Home Town has bolstered its production and development teams.

Toronto-based unscripted prodco RTR Media (Home Town) is growing its development and production teams with three key hires.

Erin Howard has been named SVP of development, while Liz Kerrigan takes up the role of VP of current programming. Samantha Jackson joins as VP of production.

Howard heads up the identification and development of IP and talent, including the recently announced pilot for HGTV, Revealed, in addition to leading the development team.

She previously served as SVP of development at California prodco Indigo Films Entertainment Group, working on projects such as A&E’s Hunting Jon Benet Ramsey’s Killer: The Untold Story and Travel Channel’s Ghost Bait, among other projects for Nat Geo Wild, ID, Oxygen, TLC and Animal Planet.

Howard — who has worked across an array of genres including competition, docuseries, true crime, lifestyle, paranormal, social experiments and game shows — was also formerly SVP of development at Hoff Productions, as well as Big Table Media.

As VP of current programming, Kerrigan is responsible for overseeing the company’s slate of content.

She was previously VP of current at All3Media’s Maverick TV, overseeing such series as USA Network’s Chrisley Knows Best and Growing Up Chrisley.

Prior to that, she was VP of current programming for Minneapolis, MN-based Magnetic Productions, managing a variety of series including HGTV’s Stone House Revival and Food Network’s Anthony Anderson’s Carnival Cravings.

Kerrigan was formerly showrunner and executive producer on HGTV’s Home Town Takeover, Hidden Potential and Five Day Flip, in addition to other projects for Food Network, Animal Planet, Travel Channel, MTV, Bravo, A&E, Lifetime and Syfy.

Finally, as VP of production, Jackson is tasked with shepherding diverse projects out of development and into production.

Most recently, she served as VP of production at Austin-based Back Roads Entertainment where she oversaw business operations, production, development, talent acquisition with series credits like BET’s 50 Central and Cooking Channel’s Big Bad BBQ Brawl.

Prior to that, she spent six years as head of production at Leopard USA overseeing hit shows including House Hunters International for HGTV and Filthy Rich for CNBC.

Jackson also spent five years in production management at Discovery International, driving global programming for many platforms across the Discovery portfolio.

RTR CEO Toni Miceli and chief creative officer Jenna Keane said in a joint statement: “As we continue to expand our roster of programming, RTR Media remains committed to delivering high quality content and a positive buyer experience. Erin, Sam and Liz are all inspiring leaders with diverse industry relationships and have already hit the ground running; we’re excited to see all that this powerhouse team can accomplish.”

In addition to Home Town and its spin-off Home Town Takeover, the lifestyle content-focused producer is behind HGTV’s Help! I Wrecked My House.
