Best in Miniature (10 x 60 minutes), a new competition series from marblemedia, has been greenlit by CBC and pre-bought by Discovery+ in the U.K. and Ireland.
The show, hosted by writer and stand-up comedian Aba Amuquandoh (This Hour Has 22 Minutes, pictured), sees contestants build their dream homes in miniature form. Eleven competitors from across the globe will create their houses by shrinking life-size objects to 1:12 scale, with one contestant being eliminated each week.
The show taps into a viral TikTok sensation that has captured more than 170 million views on the platform to date, according to a release. U.K. miniature expert Emma Waddell and esteemed Toronto designer Micheal Lambie will serve as judges on the series.
The competition series will debut on CBC later this year before launching on Discovery+ in the U.K. and Ireland in 2022. marblemedia’s distribution arm D360 holds the worldwide rights to both the format and finished program.
This latest series is an expansion of marblemedia’s strategy to develop niche competition series with broad appeal. Recent projects include glass-blowing series Blown Away (Netflix), sandcastle-building show Race Against the Tide (CBC) and chainsaw-carving factual title A Cut Above (Bell Media’s Discovery).
Best in Miniature is produced by marblemedia in association with CBC and discovery+ (U.K. and Ireland). Matt Hornburg, Mark Bishop and Diane Rankin are executive producers for marblemedia. Donna Luke and Marike Emery and are co-executive producers, with Jacqui Skeete serving as showrunner and series producer. The show was created by development producer Kelsey Espensen.
