Wapanatahk Media has inked a development deal with The Amazing Race Canada season seven winners Anthony Johnson and Dr. James Makokis.
The company, which launched earlier this year and secured its first greenlight with Dr. Savannah: Wild Rose Vet (APTN/Cottage Life), is working on a series that sees Johnson and Makokis welcome Canadians into their home and take them on transformational journeys.
The pair are renovating their home, Nizhoni Acres, with the $250,000 they received for winning season seven of the CTV competition series. Johnson and Makokis are the first Two-Spirit Indigenous couple to win the show.
Wapanatahk Media is founded and co-owned by Shirley Mclean and Tania Koenig-Gauchier, who launched the prodco in partnership with Thunderbird-owned Great Pacific Media.
Wapanatahk and Great Pacific are in discussion with multiple broadcasters, according to the companies.
Factual series Dr. Savannah: Wild Rose Vet, greenlit by APTN in partnership with Blue Ant Media’s Cottage Life channel, is in production currently. The show follows Métis veterinarian Dr. Savannah Howse-Smith as she treats local animals while learning about her Indigenous bloodline.
