The Vancouver-based equipment supply company with offices, studios, and studio partners across Canada announced MacLean’s addition to the team on June 7, revealing in a statement they are “thrilled” to welcome her aboard.

“Nanci is a well-respected executive in the industry who brings more than two decades of production experience to the role,” the company said in the statement. “A champion for diversity, inclusion, and equity, and an alumnus of Harvard Business School, Nanci adds tremendous value and perspective to our internal team as well as our clients. We look forward to growing our business with Nanci’s relationship-building proficiency and facility management expertise.”

Previously MacLean was the VP of Bell Media Studios, a role she began in 2014 after spending nearly three years as an executive director at Bell Media Productions. In 2018 she was also named as president of Pinewood Toronto Studios, after Bell Media acquired a majority stake in the company. At the time she took over the roll vacated by Blake Steels.

MacLean was included in the first round of major layoffs at Bell Media earlier this year, ending her 21-year run with the company. She was let go in January alongside Mike Cosentino (president, content and programming), Tracey Pearce (president, distribution and pay), Corrie Coe (SVP, original programming), Kevin Goldstein (VP, regulatory affairs, content and distribution, BCE), and Scott Henderson (VP, communications).

The executive’s new position comes during a time when more productions are figuring out ways to make their sets more eco-friendly and sustainable. As per the company, MBSE is openly committed to finding sustainable solutions and practices as it continues to provide productions with advanced lighting and clean power technology.

MBSE is also one of 20 organizations to partner on the recent launch of the Ontario Green Screen Strategic Plan, an initiative designed to put specific and measurable sustainability goals in place across the province’s screen sector. Pinewood Studios, under MacLean’s direction, was also one of the companies on board with the creation of the plan when it was first announced in 2019.

In a statement, MacLean said she was “drawn to MBSE Canada’s long-term commitment to environmental matters and sustainable practices, and [looks] forward to providing our clients with incredible products and services while making a difference in Canada’s film and television industry.”
