A pple TV+ will celebrate the origins of the Peanuts characters and their creator, the late Charles M. Schulz (pictured), in the documentary special Who Are You, Charlie Brown? from WildBrain and Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Documentaries.
Narrated by Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o, the documentary includes interviews with friends, family, cartoonists and fans of the comic strip, including Jean Schulz (Charles’ widow), Drew Barrymore, Al Roker, Kevin Smith, Billie Jean King and Noah Schnapp, among others.
Executive produced by Grazer and Howard, Who Are You, Charlie Brown? is also interwoven with a new animated story that follows Charlie Brown on a quest to discover himself.
WildBrain’s Josh Scherba, Anne Loi and Stephanie Betts will also serve as executive producers alongside Imagine Documentaries’ Sara Bernstein and Justin Wilkes.
Craig Schulz and Paige Braddock serve as EPs for Peanuts, with Michael Bonfiglio writing and directing. The special premieres globally June 25.
Apple TV+ expanded its deal with WildBrain for additional Peanuts content in 2020 to create new series and specials under the iconic kids brand, following its initial deal for new Peanuts content in 2018. WildBrain has also struck with other digital platforms in the last year, serving as a producer for upcoming animated series Emojitown, as well as handling international distribution and licensing, and producing a new Sonic the Hedgehog series Sonic Prime for Netflix.
