WildBrain revenue increased 4% to $102.2 million in Q3, up from $98.3 million the year prior, driven by growth in its consumer products business.
In its combined production and distribution segment, revenue was $35.6 million in Q3 2021, compared to $36.4 million the year prior. WildBrain said it had seen “steady growth from our robust production pipeline, offset by fluctuations in timing of distribution deals.”
For the year to date, production and distribution revenue climbed 33% to $140.5 million, versus $105.6 million a year ago, driven by its slate of new Peanuts content and a distribution deal for the Peanuts library with Apple TV+.
The company’s consumer products segment grew 12% to $45.7 million in Q3, compared with $40.9 million a year ago, due to an increase in revenue derived from its Peanuts brand. WildBrain said licensing royalties from fleece apparel and pet products and services, in addition to more commissions from its agency WildBrain CPLG, spurred the uptick.
Eric Ellenbogen, WildBrain CEO, said that new projects such as Emojitown, developed and produced by its digital division WildBrain Spark and The Emoji Company, will be a focus for the company’s consumer products division. “This is one of many such holistic partnerships in our pipeline that will fuel growth across our company with meaningful consumer products upside,” he said.
WildBrain Spark saw its revenue increase by 2% to $9.6 million. The uptick in Q3 comes after Q1 and Q2 saw declines of 60% and 30%, respectively, compared to the prior year results. The Halifax-headquartered company said it expects WildBrain Spark revenue to increase by 50% in Q4.
For the year to date, overall revenue across the whole company hit $339.9 million, an increase from $332.7 million at this time in 2020.
Net loss for Q3 was $26.5 million, versus $221.7 million a year ago, when the company took a non-cash goodwill impairment charge of $184.5 million, and grappled with the fallout of the pandemic. Net loss for the year is $18.5 million, compared with $240 million over the same time frame in 2020.
