Paul Kemp’s documentary feature Nike’s Big Bet: Alberto Salazar and the Fine Line of Sport has secured a number of international sales ahead of its North American premiere at Hot Docs.
Sales rights holder Abacus Media Rights has sold the doc – which is available in a 84- and 60-minute runtime – to the U.K. (Sky), Denmark (DR), Israel (Channel Hot8), South Korea (WATCHA), Poland (Canal+), Finland, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and the Baltics (Nordic Entertainment Group).
The documentary was produced by director Paul Kemp (Village of the Missing) under his Paul Kemp Productions banner and Cream Films’ Corey Russell (Killing Patient Zero) in partnership with national newspaper The Globe and Mail.
The film examines American track coach Alberto Salazar, who was found guilty of doping athletes. Producers previously secured financing for the doc with CBC and Germany’s ZDF/Arte.
Nike’s Big Bet was selected for the 2021 Hot Docs festival under its Special Presentation program. The festival will run from April 29 to May 9.
