A rclight Films has secured an all media distribution deal with The Jokers Films for France for writer/director Brandon Cronenberg’s Possessor.
Unveiled at the European Film Market (EFM), Cronenberg’s second feature film, produced by Fraser Ash, Niv Fichman and Kevin Krikst of Toronto’s Rhombus Media alongside Andy Starke from U.K. prodco Rook Films, follows a corporate agent (played Andrea Riseborough) who uses brain-implant technology to inhabit other people’s bodies, driving them to commit assassinations.
In a statement, Arclight Films chairman Gary Hamilton – who also serves as an executive producer on the coproduction – said the company was thrilled to have The Jokers Films on board.
“Since the worldwide premiere at Sundance Film festival last year, critics and audiences have raved about Cronenberg’s impeccable film. Thanks to our new international partner and the amazing marketing and distribution team at The Jokers, the film will reach audiences in France that have long been waiting to appreciate what all the buzz is about,” Hamilton said.
Executive producers on the project also include Ryan Hamilton, Noah Segal, Adrian Love, Dave Bishop, Steven Squillante, Tony Roman, David U. Lee, Daniel Negret, Simon Williams, Vaishali Mistry Steven Squillante and David U. Lee.
Also starring Christopher Abbott, Sean Bean and Jennifer Jason Leigh, presented by Ingenious Media, the film was produced with the participation of Telefilm Canada and Ontario Creates.
Last March, American production and distribution company NEON acquired the U.S. rights to the film, releasing the film in the territory this October.
Most recently, Possessor won the Grand Prix at the Gérardmer International Fantastic Film Festival. In October, Cronenberg and the film also picked up Best Direction and Best Feature Length Film, respectively.
