Production is underway on Will You Merry Me?, executive produced by Backcountry and Girl‘s Thomas Michael through his Toronto and L.A.-based Fella Films banner.
Penned by J.J. Jamieson (Christmas at Graceland) and directed by Megan Follows (Maternal), the feature-length romantic comedy for African American network Bounce follows a big-hearted pastor (played by Ransom‘s Brandon Jay McLaren) who returns to his hometown church. The holiday film’s plot thickens when he falls for a parishioner (Twenties‘ Gabrielle Graham) who asks him to officiate her wedding.
Following filming in Hamilton, production will move to Rockwood, ON with Will You Merry Me? expected to wrap later this month and to world premiere on Bounce this December.
Michael told Playback Daily that the production has extensive protocols in place such as temperature checks three-times a day, masks, sanitizer, a COVID-19 team including a full-time nurse and that Will You Merry Me?’s crew works in pods.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Chad Faust’s feature directorial debut Girl, which sees Michael serve as a producer, would make its world premiere as part of FIN Atlantic International Film Festival’s online fest FIN Stream. Other producers on the thriller starring Bella Thorne and Mickey Rourke include Trilight Entertainment’s Shayne Putzlocher and Anamorphic Media’s Sara Shaak. Lee Nelson and David Tish from Envision Media Arts serve as executive producers alongside DDI’s Jason Morning.
