Miramax exec joins Cineflix Rights as head of scripted

The newly created role sees James Durie focus on the distributor's global strategy for sales, presales, acquisitions and coproductions for its scripted content.

james durieCineflix Media has appointed former Miramax executive James Durie as head of scripted for Cineflix Rights, the company’s U.K.-based distribution arm.

In the newly created U.K.-based role, Durie will report to Cineflix Media president Peter Emerson, overseeing the distributor’s global strategy for sales, presales, acquisitions and coproductions for its scripted content.

In addition to previously serving as VP, sales EMEA across Miramax’s TV, film and library businesses, Durie’s resume includes working as director of sales and business development for London, UK.-based Pitch International and as an international sales manager for IMG Media.

In a statement about the move, Cineflix Media’s Emerson acknowledged that the company is ramping up its scripted production and distribution activities. “James’ track record and global relationships, as well as our increased investment in scripted will enhance our competitive edge as an indie with quality dramas for platforms and broadcasters worldwide,” he said.

Most recently, Cineflix Rights acquired the worldwide distribution rights to the French-language Canadian drama C’est comme ça que je t’aime (“Happily Married”), produced by Montreal’s Productions Casablanca, which made its world premiere at Berlinale Series last month.

Cineflix Rights also holds the worldwide rights to Canadian series like drama procedural Coroner, produced by Back Alley Films, Muse Entertainment and Cineflix Studios, which was CBC’s biggest drama debut in four years when it made its premiered last year. As well, Cineflix Studios signed on to coproduce season four of sci-fi series Wynonna Earp, which is now currently in production and sees Cineflix Rights handle international sales of the show in partnership with international distributor IDW Entertainment.
