Deals: Kew Media, Bell Media, Blue Ant Media

Kew Media Distribution secures sales for titles like Our House Media's My Paranormal Nightmare, Love Nature expands its reach in Russia, and more.

Kew Media Distribution

Kew Media Distribution has sold a number of its unscripted titles, including Frantic Films’ High Maintenance. The series, which was commissioned by Blue Ant’s Smithsonian Channel Canada, was picked up in Azerbaijan and Czech Republic. Blue Ant picked up Our House Media’s My Paranormal Nightmare (pictured) and Mutant Weather. Our House Media titles were also picked up by the Travel Channel in the U.S., Foxtel in Australia and New Zealand and Sky in the U.K., with additional territories including France, Poland, and the Middle East. Bristow Global Media productions Haunted Hospitals and Paranormal 911 have also been picked up by Travel Channel, with Paranormal 911 landing additional sales in Australia, Germany, and multiple territories through a deal with Hong Kong’s Celestial Tiger Entertainment.

Bell Media

U.S. network Smithsonian Channel has picked up a third season of factual series Disasters at Sea, produced by Bell Media’s in-house studio Exploration Production. The series is now in post-production on season three for Discovery Channel. It was originally commissioned in conjunction with the Smithsonian Channel and Seven Network in Australia. Disasters at Sea has sold in more than 100 international markets, according to Bell Media, including Eastern and Western Europe, and Australia.

Blue Ant Media

Love Nature, Blue Ant Media’s natural history channel, has been picked up by Russia’s pay-tv platform Tricolor. Overall, this deal expands the channel’s reach in the market, where it is also available on Rostelecom via IPTV and OTT services. This agreement with Tricolor was brokered by Thema Russia and Chiara McKee, Blue Ant’s VP, EMEA, kids and global networks. Programming from Love Nature includes Monkey Island and Blue Ant Studios’ Great Blue Wild. The channel recently expanded its reach in Europe and commissioned a new animal rescue series from Toronto’s White Pine Pictures.

Portfolio Entertainment

Toronto-based producer/distributor Portfolio Entertainment has expanded its kids and family distribution catalogue ahead of Kidscreen Summit 2020, adding coming-of-age film Project Pay Day to its slate. Produced by Philadelphia-based Crossbow Studio, the feature follows three teenagers who embark on a series of get-rich-quick schemes after a summer of faking their first jobs. The family comedy stars Cameron Ocasio (Sam & Cat), Quinn McColgan (Mildred Pierce) and David Corenswet (The Politician), to name a few. Portfolio Entertainment holds all distribution rights to the film globally.
