Cineflix Rights, the U.K.-based distribution arm of Cineflix Media, has picked up the exclusive worldwide distribution rights to the upcoming French-language Canadian drama C’est comme ça que je t’aime (“Happily Married”).
Produced by Montreal’s Productions Casablanca, the 10-part project was co-commissioned earlier this year by Radio-Canada Télé and digital platform Tou.Tv Extra for a spring 2020 debut.
C’est comme ça que je t’aime is written by François Létourneau and directed by Jean-François Rivard, the creative team behind the award-winning Radio-Canada series Les Invincibles. The comedy, also produced by Productions Casablanca, aired for three seasons from 2005 to 2009.
The new series, set in 1974, follows two married couples as they take a number of drastic actions to become the most infamous criminal quartet in Quebec history. It stars François Létourneau (Les Invincibles, Série Noire), Patrice Robitaille (Les Invincibles, Victor Lessard), Marilyn Castonguay (Plan B), Karine Gonthier-Hydman (Like-moi!) and Sophie Desmarais (The Forbidden Room).
Cineflix Rights handles international sales on a wide range of Canadian and international titles. On the Canadian front, the London-based distributor handles international sales on Cineflix-produced titles such as Pure, Coroner and the international coproduction Mirage. International series on its roster include Marcella, An Ordinary Woman and Inside Cadbury. Most recently, Cineflix Rights partnered with U.K. indie prodco Goldfinch TV to handle the global sales on five of its culinary series.
Cineflix Media’s SVP of global scripted coproductions Julien Leroux called C’est comme ça que je t’aime a “fascinating mix between a crime series, a relationship drama, and a dark comedy,” with Radio-Canada’s GM of television Dany Meloul adding that the pubcaster’s in-house distribution unit had worked closely with Casablanca Productions and Cineflix to bring the deal to fruition.
