Baroness Von Sketch gets early CBC renewal

CBC has ordered a fifth season of the sketch comedy, more than a month ahead of its season four premiere.

Frantic Films’ Baroness Von Sketch Show has landed a fifth season, thanks to an early renewal from CBC.

The pubcaster has ordered eight 30-minute episodes for the new season, which is scheduled to go into production this fall. This is the second time CBC has given an early renewal for the sketch comedy. Its fourth season, which is set to premiere Sept. 17, earned a renewal one month before the season three premiere.

Baroness Von Sketch Show stars Carolyn Taylor, Meredith MacNeill, Aurora Browne and Jennifer Whalen in a sketch comedy format that satirizes modern life from a female perspective. Frantic Films CEO Jamie Brown also serves as executive producer. The series picked up four Canadian Screen Awards for season three.

The news was first announced by U.S. channel IFC at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour in L.A. IFC acquired the series for the U.S. in 2017.
