Calgary writer/director Robert Cuffley has wrapped on Bright Hill Road, his first horror feature.

Produced by Nevermine Films, the feature follows a young woman who is forced to face her demons at a boarding house after a violent tragedy. Shot in Stavely, AB and Calgary, Bright Hill Road is also Cuffley’s first Alberta-shot film and horror novelist Susie Moloney’s first feature-length film script. A teaser trailer for the new film was recently shown at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo.

Colin Sheldon of Nevermine Films is as an exec producer on Bright Hill Road, while his brother Carl Sheldon serves as a co-producer and Aleisha Anderson is an associate producer on the project. Made with a budget of under $500,000, a deal with a distributor has yet to be finalized.

Cuffley’s previous credits include 2016 wrestling dramedy Chokeslam, which premiered at the Calgary International Film Festival, and 2013’s Ferocious, a thriller starring Amanda Crew (Silicon Valley) and Kim Coates (Bad Blood).

Chokeslam won four awards at the Alberta Film & Television Awards (also known as the Rosies) in 2017, including best dramatic feature/MOW, best directing in a feature-length drama, and best screenwriting, which was shared by Cuffley and his co-writer Jason Long. The film also went on to screen at the 20th annual Shanghai International Film Festival. Most recently, Cuffley’s horror short Penny Whistle screened at the Telluride Horror Show Horror Film Festival in 2018.

Bright Hill Road stars Siobhan Williams (Adventures in Public School), Agam Darshi (Kingsway) and Michael Eklund (Wynonna Earp). Prior to this film, Eklund starred in Cuffley’s Chokeslam, Ferocious and Walk All Over Me.
