coty savardThe National Film Board (NFB) has appointed Indigenous filmmaker Coty Savard as a producer at its North West Studio.

Savard, who has previously worked as an associate producer for Mosaic Entertainment, joins the Edmonton production unit as it looks to expand its slate of projects. Savard is Cree/Métis from Amiskwaciy Waskahikan (Edmonton).

She has directed and produced projects for CBC Short Docs and CBC Arts, while her credits with Mosaic include Delmer & Marta and Tiny Plastic Men. Her other credits include Peace River Rising, The Things We Taught Our Daughters, and, most recently, the NFB project Lake.

Savard’s appointment is one of a number of significant personnel changes at the public producer over the past 12 months. In January, the NFB appointed Prospector Films founder John Christou as director of operations for NFB’s English production branch. A month earlier, the organization named Nathalie Cloutier as an executive producer for its French-language program’s Documentary Studio.
