Production is slated to begin on Mirage, coproduced by Cineflix Media prodco Connect3 and France’s Lincoln TV. The international thriller will begin filming April 1 in Abu Dhabi and Morocco, and is expected to air in late 2019.
The 6 x 60-minute drama, with a budget of US$3 million per episode, is the first production created through the Alliance, a union of European pubcasters France Télévisions, RAI and ZDF established in May 2018. It was commissioned by France Télévisions and ZDF, as well as Canadian broadcasters Bell Media and Super Channel.
Mirage is set in a futuristic Abu Dhabi where protagonist Claire, played by Marie-Josée Croze (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), is thrown into a world of espionage when she discovers her long-dead husband (Vikings‘ Clive Standen) is actually alive.
Co-creator Franck Philippon serves as executive producer on the series with Marc Gabizon from German distributor Wild Bunch as associate producer. The series is written and created by Philippon, Benedicte Charles and Olivier Pouponneau and directed by Louis Choquette (19-2).
Starring alongside Croze and Standen are Shawn Doyle (Unspeakable, Frontier), Hannes Jaenicke (Sardsch, Code Name: Eternity) and Grégory Fitoussi (Spiral, Spin).
Cineflix, which has picked up worldwide rights to Mirage, will preview the series at MIPTV in April, along with its upcoming Icelandic drama The Minister. Cineflix’s SVP of global scripted coproductions Julien Leroux will present the series. Additional Canadian titles on Cineflix’s MIPTV sales slate are the recently renewed Coroner and the upcoming second season of Pure.
