Boat Rocker hires former Mattel marketer

Veteran brand marketer Kate Schlomann will oversee Boat Rocker's licensing, brand and content marketing initiatives in the New York-based post.

head shot b&w schlomannBoat Rocker Studios has hired former Mattel exec Kate Schlomann as EVP of brand management and content marketing.

Schlomann, who most recently served as Mattel’s VP and GM for the Thomas & Friends brand, will oversee Boat Rocker’s licensing, brand and content marketing initiatives in the newly created post. She will be based in New York and report to Jon Rutherford, who was recently promoted to managing director of Boat Rocker Studios.

Prior to joining Mattel, Schlomann held a number of other franchise-focused positions in the U.K. with many of the industry’s highest-profile companies. She is the former EVP of brand management and marketing at FremantleMedia where she led brand management for reality franchises including Got Talent, Master Chef and Idol in a London-based role. She was also the VP of international brand management at Nickelodeon, where she oversaw brands such as Dora and Spongebob.

The announcement comes a month after parent company Boat Rocker Media (BRM) revealed it was combining its content, distribution and brands teams under the Boat Rocker Studios banner.

Rutherford was promoted to oversee the Studios arm, which includes Temple Street, Proper, Crooked Horse and Insight Productions, in addition to continuing to lead the company’s distribution and rights operations.
