Entertainment One (eOne) is in business again with HBO, this time on an untitled project starring Canadian actor Taylor Kitsch, who will also executive produce. Kitsch plays Chris Lug, a drug dealer who is left in a temporary vegetative state when someone close to him tries to kill him with a bad batch of dope. The story is told through Klug’s vegetative perspective in flashbacks and the present day. Creator John Barcheski and writer/showrunner Robert Munic will also executive produce. eOne and HBO previously collaborated on Sharp Objects, the awards-contending drama helmed by Canadian Jean-Marc Vallee.

Sharp Objects, Stephan James nab Golden Globe nominations

On that note, Sharp Objects was today nominated in the Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television category for the Golden Globes. The eight-part series lines up against The AlienistThe Assassination of Gianni VersaceEscape at Dannemora and A Very English Scandal. As well, Canadian actor Stephan James has received a nomination for his role in the Amazon series Homecoming. James, who has starred in features such as Canada copro Race, was nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series – Drama category alongside Jason Bateman, Richard Madden, Billy Porter and Matthew Rhys. The 2019 Golden Globes takes place on Jan. 6.

Loretta Ramos joins Halfire Entertainment in new role

Halfire Entertainment has hired Loretta Ramos in the newly created position of SVP, creative affairs. Ramos will oversee all of Halfire’s development and production. In her previous role Ramos oversaw production and development for Bryan Fuller’s Living Dead Guy Productions. She worked as a producer on a number of series, including Starz’ American Gods and NBC’s Hannibal. Currently on Halfire’s production slate is Netflix series Another Life, created by Slasher‘s Aaron Martin, and starring Katee Sackhoff and Selma Blair. The 10-episode series began filming this summer in Vancouver, B.C.

Production begins on animated feature Felix and the Treasure of Morgäa

Quebec’s 10th Avenue Productions has started production on its fourth animated feature Felix and the Treasure of Morgäa. The film, written by Marc Robitaille and directed by Nicola Lemay, tells the story of twelve-year-old Felix who goes on a journey to find his father and uncovers a secret city ruled by the keeper of a great treasure. Nancy Florence Savard is a producer on the project while Jean-François Tremblay serves as executive producer. The film is tentatively scheduled for release in early 2021.
