Jasmin Mozaffari’s debut feature Firecrackers has landed U.S. distribution with L.A.-based Good Deed Entertainment.
The coming-of-age drama made its world premiere in the Discovery program at TIFF ’18 and will now be released theatrically in the U.S. in 2019. It is produced by Caitlin Grabham of Prowler Films alongside Kristy Neville of Wildling Pictures.
Since its world premiere, the feature has screened at a number of festivals including Zurich Film Festival and Sao Paulo Film Festival. In addition, Firecrackers won a pair of prizes – best film and best actress – at Stockholm Film Festival this past weekend. Ahead of its Toronto premiere, the CMPA awarded its Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award to Grabham for her work on the project.
Seville International handles international sales on Firecrackers, while levelFILM is distributing the film in Canada. It stars Michaela Kurimsky and Karena Evans in the lead roles.
The feature, about two young women desperate to escape their repressive hometown, is exec produced by Alcina Pictures president and producer Paul Barkin and Wildling Pictures’ Matt Code. It is based on Mozaffari’s short film of the same name, also written and directed by Mozaffari and produced by Grabham.
Among the other projects on Good Deed’s distribution slate are Loving Vincent (Poland/U.K./U.S), American Folk (U.S.) and After Everything (U.S.).
