Canadian writer/director/producer Larysa Kondracki has signed a first look TV deal with Amazon Studios.
Under the agreement, Kondracki will develop and produce original TV series for the studio through her Toronto-based Smadginelli banner. She will also have the option to serve as a director on select series.
Kondracki recently served as a showrunner on Amazon Prime’s limited series Picnic At Hanging Rock, of which she also directed three episodes. Produced by FremantleMedia Australia for Australian broadcaster Foxtel and coproduced by Amazon Prime Video for the U.S., the six-part series is based on Joan Lindsay’s novel of the same name and follows the disappearance of three schoolgirls on Valentine’s Day in 1990. Bell Media picked up the Canadian rights to the mystery series this May, airing the series on Bravo and making it available to stream on CraveTV.
The Playback 5 to Watch alum made waves at TIFF in 2010 with her debut feature The Whistleblower, a political thriller starring Rachel Weisz that racked up a number of foreign sales. Kondracki’s directing credits also include The Fix (ABC), Better Call Saul (AMC), Legion (FX) and The Walking Dead (AMC), among others.
