Melissa Taylor joins CBC business and rights team

The former eOne exec will lead contracting for the pubcaster's acquisitions.

melissa taylorCBC has added longtime legal affairs executive Melissa Taylor to its business and rights team.

Taylor has been appointed senior manager, acquired programming and feature film. In the newly created role, Taylor will report to Susan Kelly, senior director of business and rights. She’ll lead business and contracting processes for all acquisitions and acquired programming for the pubcaster’s English-language services. She’ll have oversight of all feature film licensing, including pre-licensing and films supported by the CBC Breaking Barriers Film Fund.

She starts her new role on Apr. 23.

Taylor joins CBC from eOne, where she served as VP of business and legal affairs for the television production group since 2014.  Prior to eOne, Taylor held a number of business and legal affairs roles at marblemedia, Spin Master, Canwest, Alliance Atlantis and Cookie Jar.

Taylor’s appointment comes as the CBC business and rights team announces several changes to its contracting processes. Last week, the pubcaster revealed changes to its TV development deals, including dropping the right of last match clause. In September 2017, CBC also announced it would drop profit participation and retransmission royalties from its deals with independent producers on all pre-licensed English-language projects.
