Molly Parker to receive ACTRA Award of Excellence

The veteran actress, who made her directorial debut this year with Bird, will be recognized at an event in January.

British-Columbia native Molly Parker will receive the 2018 ACTRA national award of excellence.

The actress will be presented with the award, which recognizes an ACTRA member’s career achievements and contributions to the industry, at the Beverly Hilton in L.A. on Jan. 27, 2018.

Parker recently starred in Bruce McDonald’s Weirdos, for which she won a best supporting actress award at the 2017 CSAs, and Netflix’s Stephen King-adaptation 1922. She’s also known for her work on House of Cards, which earned her a guest actress Emmy nom in 2016.

In a release announcing the win, Parker praised ACTRA for the support it offers actors. “Our collective agreements make it possible to set boundaries in what is a gooey business,” she said.

Parker made her writer/director debut this year with the short film Bird, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

She joins past recipients of the award including Kim Coates, Neve Campbell and Jason Priestley.
