Members of the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) have voted to ratify the 2025-27 Independent Production Agreement (IPA) with producers.
ACTRA National announced on Tuesday (Jan. 21) that the IPA with the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) and Association québécoise de la production médiatique (AQPM) had been ratified by members after voting closed that same day at 12 p.m. ET. The previous IPA expired on Dec. 31, 2024.
Details of the vote, including the percentage of members who voted and the percentage of voting members in favour of ratification, were not disclosed at press time.
The IPA has also been approved by the CMPA board of directors. However, a spokesperson for AQPM told Playback Daily it had not been ratified yet by the Quebec producers association at press time.
“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with ACTRA that recognizes the vital role of performers in Canada’s screen industry, and will establish the stability and predictability that is vital for the success of our sector,” said Sean Porter, CMPA’s VP of national industrial relations and counsel, in a statement. “I want to thank our bargaining partners for their dedication to reaching a fair agreement for all parties.”
According to ACTRA, the IPA includes a 13.5% wage increase for its members over three years, protections around the misuse of artificial intelligence and “improved transparency for streaming revenues.”
“These advancements, along with improvements to work opportunities and audition standards, establish a new benchmark for industry growth and success for years to come,” said Marie Kelly, ACTRA National’s executive director and chief negotiator.
The IPA with the CMPA covers terms, conditions and rates for performers in English-language productions, excluding B.C. productions, which are under the jurisdiction of the Union of BC Performers (UBCP/ACTRA) BC Master Production Agreement. The IPA with AQPM covers French-language productions.
“On behalf of ACTRA members across the country, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the IPA Bargaining Committee for their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts in securing this strong and comprehensive agreement,” added ACTRA National president Eleanor Noble. “With negotiations now behind us, we can focus on what truly matters – working together to create world-class content that will captivate audiences both here and around the globe.”
