Raven Banner pacts with 9 Light, Red Square

The new production entity Hangar 18 Media aims to leverage the companies' development, production and distribution businesses to create original content.

Toronto prodcos Raven Banner, 9 Light Entertainment and post-production house Red Square Motion have partnered to launch a new production entity, Hangar 18 Media.

The new venture aims to combine the production experience of the two prodcos with Red Square’s post-production capabilities to create projects that Raven Banner can then sell internationally or distribute directly in Canada, said Raven Banner managing partner Michael Paszt. Hangar 18 is an equal partnership between the two prodcos.

He added that Raven Banner has been working toward becoming a full-service entity with the ability to develop, produce, distribute and sell its own original content in-house.

Hangar 18’s first project is the feature-length documentary The Booker, about a Canadian professional wrestler. Directed by Paszt and produced by Patriki and Bruno Marino, the doc is filming in Canada, Mexico and the U.S.

As well as producing original content, Ontario-based Hangar 18 will also service produce Canadian and international projects. Raven Banner first got into the service-production game when it launched its Western Canada-based production arm Berserker in 2016. Berserker service produced the Saskatchewan-shot feature The Stakelander (U.S.), written by Nick Damici and produced by U.S. prodco Glass Eye Pix.

In addition, Hangar 18 has announced a deal with Federgreen Entertainment that will see the two companies partnering to develop and produce original content. Federgreen Entertainment will also work with Hangar 18 on the service-production side of its business.

Avi has a great deal of experience not only in production but distribution as well which is key in assessing new projects. We have worked with him on a number of projects over the past 5 or 6 years, and the goal was always to grow that relationship. Hangar 18 allows us to do [that],” said Paszt.
