OMDC backs 97 companies through IDM fund

With more than $500,000, Secret Location walked away with the most coin to help finance three digital projects.

The Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) has announced its latest round of interactive digital media funding, with 97 companies receiving a share of almost $10 million in financing for gaming projects.

The OMDC discloses the amount of funding distributed to each company, but not the names of the projects themselves.

Among the recipients in the Interactive Digital Media Fund – Production stream were Banger Films ($187,610), Boat Rocker Digital ($150,000), LaRue Productions ($250,000), Shaftesbury Films ($215,000) and Tiny Titan Studios ($233,000).

N5 Pictures ($250,000), Big Blue Bubble ($250,000), Yellow Bear Studios ($230,400), Massive Damage ($244,000) also received OMDC coin through the production stream, while Secret Location received a total of $525,000 across three projects.

The funding recipients were announced by at Reza Moridi, Minister of Research, Innovation and Science on behalf of Eleanor McMahon, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport at the Toronto’s Gamma Space, a space for web and game developers. The OMDC administers the fund on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.

Companies to receive funding through the Interactive Digital Media Fund – Concept Definition stream were Digital Howard ($50,000), Innovate By Day ($35,000), Shaftesbury Films ($22,000), Stitch Media ($50,000), Torn Banner Studios ($50,000) and iThentic ($50,000).

Elsewhere in the Global Market Development stream, financing went to DEEP ($15,000), Digital Howard ($15,000), iThentic ($9,100), LaRue ($15,000), Marblemedia Interactive ($5,000) and Uken Studios ($15,000).

Beginning in 2016/17, the Interactive Digital Media Fund was increased to $10 million annually, from $6 million the previous year.
