Blue Ant Studios’ Mysteries from Above flies to the U.S., Boat Rocker plays its Mix Tape for European buyers, plus more.

Blue Ant Studios has sold its investigative history series Mysteries from Above (pictured) to A+E Global Media for its History Channel in the U.S.

A+E Global Media has picked up three seasons (30 x 60 minutes) of the series, which investigates historic sites and natural phenomena from a bird’s eye view via drones, satellites and aerial photography.

The sale was announced at the Banff World Media Festival on Wednesday (June 11), and was highlighted as a demonstration of the company’s commitment to exporting Canadian productions in the U.S. and globally.

Boat Rocker

Boat Rocker has sold the Australian scripted drama Mix Tape (4 x 60 minutes) to a number of European buyers ahead of its domestic debut on Binge on Thursday (June 12).

The series stars Teresa Palmer and Jim Sturgess as an estranged couple who reconnect through their love of music, despite living on opposite sides of the world. It’s based on the novel by British author Jane Sanderson.

Boat Rocker sold the series to BBC in the U.K, RTÉ in Ireland, MTV3 in Finland, and Pickbox NOW and Pickbox TV for Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Bulgaria. The deal for BBC was brokered by Sue Deeks, head of BBC programme acquisition, and Patrick Roberts, SVP, global sales at Boat Rocker Studios.

Mix Tape is produced by Ireland’s Subotica and Australia’s Aquarius Films in association with Boat Rocker, which holds global distribution rights.

Silverlining Rights

Quebecor Content has picked up the rights to the British true crime special Social Media Murders: The Murder of Olly Stephens.

The deal was announced by U.K.-based production finance broker and distributor Silverlining Rights among a raft of sales for the special. The 60-minute title explores the murder of 13-year-old Olly Stephens and the role social media played in her death.

Silverlining also named CBC as one of the buyers for the Channel 4 docuseries Love Cheats, which examines cases of romantic fraud. Other buyers include Nine Network for Australia, Warner Bros. Discovery for New Zealand and TV2 for Denmark and Norway.
