WIFT-T names director mentorship recipient

The Sun at Midnight filmmaker Kirsten Carthew will receive training and advice from a DGC Ontario director.

kirsten carthewKirsten Carthew is the 2017 recipient of Women in Film & Television – Toronto’s (WIFT-T) DGC Ontario Director Mentorship.

The two-part program aims to give an emerging Canadian female director the opportunity to enhance her business and creative skills.

Carthew, whose previous film credits include The Sun at Midnight  (which she also produced through her Yellowknife-based prodco Jill & Jackfish Productions), will first receive business training and one-on-one mentoring with an industry advisor. The second phase will pair Carthew with a DGC Ontario director to work on craft. Mentors for this year’s program have yet to be announced.

Past mentors include: Tom Alexander (Mongrel Media), Gail Harvey (Director, Heartland, Murdoch Mysteries), Christina Kubacki (Entertainment One Films), and Eleanor Lindo (Director, Heartland, Murdoch Mysteries, Degrassi: Next Class).

Past recipients include Nadine Valcin, who recently completed the documentary Whitewash, as well as 2015 recipient Nimisha Mukerji, who was also selected for the Women in View/Sinking Ship 2x More director’s lab in 2016.
