Vancouver-based prodco Brightlight Pictures has teamed up with L.A.-based global content studio Gunpowder & Sky to produce Summer of ’84.
The horror-thriller follows a teenage boy and his friends who are convinced that a police officer neighbour is a serial killer.
The film is directed by Montreal-based filmmaking collective RKSS (comprised of directors François Simard, Anouk Whissell and Yoann-Karl Whissell), known for 2015’s cult favourite Turbo Kid. The screenplay was written by U.S. writing duo and co-producers Matt Leslie and Stephen J. Smith (The Harrowing).
Brightlight’s Shawn Williamson and Jameson Parker will produce. Cody Zwieg will oversee production for Gunpowder & Sky.
The feature is set to shoot in Vancouver this July, with an expected end-of-year release date.
