Montreal-based Cineflix Media and U.K.-based producer Duncan Gray (pictured) have launched a new production company.
Twenty Six 03 Entertainment is a joint venture between Cineflix and Gray’s London, U.K.-based Twenty Six 03 Content, which produced music and comedy format Bring The Noise for Sky 1. The joint venture, which will work out of Twenty Six 03 Content’s London office, will focus on creating unscripted primetime formats and series for the global market.
“We wanted to build our international business and also our format business and thought Duncan was someone who could help us achieve that,” Glen Salzman, co-founder and co-CEO of Cineflix Media told Playback Daily. He added that Cineflix Rights, the distribution arm of Cineflix Media, will consider distributing the projects produced by Twenty Six 03 Entertainment on a case-by-case basis.
Gray has a long history in the unscripted business. He previously held senior executive roles at ABC in the U.S., and ITV and Sky in the U.K, and has developed formats including Survivor for CBS, Britain’s Got Talent for ITV and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition for ABC. He launched Twenty Six 03 Content in 2015.
While the joint venture currently has multiple projects “set up with U.K. broadcasters,” according to a release, no further details were provided. Gray did tell Playback Daily that the company will produce “big and broad shows for mainstream audiences.”
The joint venture comes after Cineflix secured financing in 2016 from U.S. banks to fund acquisitions and content partnerships.
Salzman said Cineflix Media is primarily focused on developing partnerships with producers in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. “We’re trying to partner with executive producers who have lots of experience and talent and who can add content to our distribution company and help us diversify and strengthen our production slate,” he said.
Earlier this year, Cineflix partnered with Canadian television producer André Barro in a move to boost its international coproduction business. Cineflix Media has operations in Montreal, Toronto, New York, London and Dublin.
