Kino Lorber has acquired most North American rights to Rezolution Pictures’ Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World. 

The New York-based distributor has all rights to the documentary in the U.S., except first-window TV rights. In Canada, Kino Lorber has picked up theatrical, festival and transactional digital rights.

The documentary, which explores the ways Native Americans have influenced U.S. music culture, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. The doc will have it’s U.S. theatrical premiere on July 26 at New York’s Film Forum before a U.S. national expansion during the summer. Canadian theatrical release details have yet to be determined.

Rumble was directed by Catherine Bainbridge (Reel Injun), who also wrote the film alongside co-director Alfonso Maiorana. Producers on the project are Rezolution’s Bainbridge, Christina Fon and Linda Ludwick, as well as Lisa M. Roth. Exec producers are Ernest Webb, Bainbridge, Fon, Ludwick, Stevie Salas, Tim Johnson and Jan Rofekamp.

Bell Media acquired the feature doc in January for The Movie Network for a still-to-be-determined 2017 Canadian broadcast. Broadcast deals with APTN, ARTV and Radio-Canada have also been signed, while ARTE acquired the film for France and Germany and Yes took the doc for Israel.

North American distribution for the film is handled by Diana Holtzberg of East Village Entertainment. Jan Rofekamp of Films Transit handles international distribution. The deal was negotiated between Kino Lorber CEO Richard Lorber and Holtzberg.
