Mongrel sends Maudie to Europe, Asia, Middle East

The Canada/Ireland coproduction was picked up by distributors including Germany's NFP and Japan's Shochiku.

maudieCanada/Ireland coproduction Maudie has been picked up by local distributors in a number of international territories in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. 

Mongrel Media, which handles international sales on the Newfoundland-shot feature in select territories, sold the film to NFP (German Europe), La Belle Company (France), Karma (Spain), Hagi (Poland), Imagine (Benelux) and MegaCom Film (former Yugoslavia). In addition, it was picked up by Shockiku (Japan), AUD (Korea), Transmission (Australia), Shoval (Israel) and Front Row (Middle East).

Sony Pictures Entertainment previously acquired the international rights to the feature in the U.S., U.K. and Latin America, as well as Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, South Africa, Italy, Greece, Cyprus and Portugal.

Starring Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke, Maudie is written by Newfoundland screenwriter Sherry White and tells the story of Nova Scotia folk artist Maud Lewis. The film, directed by Aisling Walsh, premiered at Colorado’s Telluride before screening at TIFF ’16.

Maudie is produced by Bob Cooper, Mary Young Leckie (Solo Productions), Susan Mullen and Mary Sexton (Rink Rat Productions) and executive produced by Heather Haldane, Hussain Amarshi, Alan Moloney, Johanna Hogan, Mark Roberts, Sheldon Rabinowitz, Ross Jacobson, Tyler Mitchell and Ed Riche.

Mongrel Media is distributing Maudie in Canada, with the film scheduled to open in theatres on April 14.
